Drake Bets $300k on Sinner Despite Rift with Stake

4 Sept 2025

Drake has sparked fresh headlines by backing Jannik Sinner with a $300,000 wager at the US Open, even as his strained ties with Stake remain unresolved. The rapper’s bold bet reignites chatter around the notorious ‘Drake curse’.

Drake Bets $300k on Sinner Despite Rift with Stake

Big Money Backing for Sinner

Drake has once again made headlines by placing a hefty $300,000 wager on Jannik Sinner to defend his US Open crown. Should the bet land, the Canadian rapper stands to pocket $507,000. Sinner, the Italian world number one, is the firm favourite at 1.67 odds to lift his second consecutive title, with his route to the final including clashes against Lorenzo Musetti and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

On the opposite side of the draw, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are set for a showdown in the semi-finals. Bookmakers tip Alcaraz as the biggest threat, offering +150 on the Spaniard to claim his sixth Grand Slam.

Stake Partnership Stirs Controversy

Despite his very public fallout with Stake’s co-founders, Drake hasn’t stepped away from the crypto-betting platform. His Instagram profile still carries a direct link to Stake, even after he accused the operator of blocking withdrawals. Adding to the drama, he closed his Kick streaming account and ruled out further gambling livestreams.

The tension escalated when Drake insulted Stake and Kick owners Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani during a livestream hosted by Trainwreck. To date, neither Craven nor Tehrani has responded to his outbursts.

The Infamous ‘Drake Curse’

While Sinner eyes a fifth career major, Drake’s record on the betting front paints a worrying picture. The rapper has openly admitted to staggering losses, including an eye-watering $8 million in a single month. Screenshots shared online show wagers totalling $125 million placed with Stake alone.

The so-called ‘Drake curse’ has long been a running theme in sport. Athletes who have posed for photos with the rapper often go on to suffer defeat, while his own bets frequently fall flat. Notable examples include $1.2 million lost on Jake Paul against Tyson Fury and $1 million staked on the Toronto Maple Leafs, who crashed out to the Florida Panthers.

The legend of the curse even prompted AS Roma to jokingly ban players from posting photos with the star back in 2019. For now, Italian fans will hope Sinner escapes the shadow of the curse and continues his remarkable run of form.

Drake’s high-stakes wager has once again set tongues wagging in both the sporting and betting worlds. As Sinner hunts for another US Open triumph, the spotlight lingers on whether the so-called ‘Drake curse’ will strike once more—or finally be broken.
